Society मित्र ("we", "our", "the platform") is a residential society management platform operated for Indian Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use our platform at www.societymitr.com.

2. Information We Collect

  • Identity information: Name, mobile number, flat/unit number, society name.
  • Usage data: Pages visited, features used, timestamps of activity within the platform.
  • Financial data: Maintenance bill amounts, payment status. We do not store card numbers or bank account credentials.
  • Uploaded content: Documents, photos, and files you upload to society repositories or your store.
  • Communications: Complaints, forum posts, announcements, and messages exchanged on the platform.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide and operate the platform features (billing, complaints, governance, marketplace, etc.).
  • To send OTP for authentication via SMS.
  • To display your profile within your society community.
  • To send in-app notifications about society activities.
  • To improve the platform and fix issues.

4. Sharing of Information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. Your information may be shared only in these circumstances:

  • Within your society: Committee members can see resident profiles and bills. All residents can view the society directory if you have enabled visibility.
  • Service providers: SMS gateway (for OTP delivery), cloud storage (for uploaded files). These providers are bound by confidentiality agreements.
  • Legal requirements: If required by Indian law or a valid court order.

5. Data Security

We use industry-standard encryption (HTTPS/TLS) for all data in transit. Passwords, where applicable, are stored using bcrypt hashing. OTPs expire within 5 minutes. We perform regular security audits and apply the principle of least privilege to all data access.

6. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your society account is active on the platform. If you or your RWA requests deletion, we will remove personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law (e.g., financial records).

7. Your Rights

You have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of your personal data. Contact your RWA admin to update profile information, or reach us directly at the address below.

8. Cookies

We use only essential session cookies required for authentication. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
